Spam vs Junk

Reminds me of my first two girlfriends ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿฝ‍♂️๐Ÿ˜‚, but lets agree to disagree that it don't rhyme with their initials like saying Senior and Junior, add a little French twist ๐Ÿ˜‚. Oddly also rhymes with my MS as the M&M King #MK please fight , some Mortal Kombat type shiiii๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฝ‍♂️. Ok let's differentiate the two.

The terms spam and junk are often used interchangeably, but they actually mean slightly different things—especially in email and messaging:

๐Ÿ“ฉ Spam

  • Definition: Unwanted messages sent in bulk, usually for advertising, scams, or phishing.
  • Intent: Often malicious or promotional.
  • Examples:
    • Fake “you won a prize” emails
    • Phishing links trying to steal passwords
    • Mass marketing emails you never signed up for

๐Ÿ‘‰ Think of spam as intentionally sent unwanted content.

๐Ÿ—‘️ Junk

  • Definition: A broader category for low-value or unwanted messages.
  • Intent: Not always harmful—can include legitimate but irrelevant emails.
  • Examples:
    • Newsletters you subscribed to but don’t read
    • Promotional emails from stores
    • Notifications you no longer care about

๐Ÿ‘‰ Think of junk as anything you don’t find useful.

๐Ÿ”‘ Key Difference

  • Spam = unsolicited + often harmful
  • Junk = unwanted but not necessarily harmful
